By December 2024, the global gold market capitalization surged to an estimated $18.4 trillion, equivalent to approximately 16.7% of global GDP. This reflects the rising value of gold amidst strong production trends and price increases.

To date, about 272,000 metric tons of gold have been discovered, with 216,000 metric tons already produced historically and 56,000 metric tons remaining in underground reserves. Gold production for 2024 is projected to reach 3,700 metric tons, following the production of 2,800 metric tons in the first nine months of the year.
