India Fuels Surge in U.S. International Students as China's Numbers Plateau

From 2015 to 2023, the number of students from China in the U.S. remained relatively stable, reaching 290,000 in 2023. In contrast, the number of students from India surged by 162%, reaching 269,000. During this period, the increase in the total number of international students in the U.S. was largely driven by the growth in students from India. India's share of U.S. international students rose from 12% in 2014 to 25% in 2023.
