In the 12 months ending November 2024, U.S. crude oil imports averaged 6.58 million barrels per day (Mb/D)—35% lower than the peak levels from 2004 to 2007. Canada accounted for 4.04 Mb/D (61.4%) of total imports, followed by OPEC members at 0.78 Mb/D (11.9%), Mexico at 0.49 Mb/D (7.4%), and other American countries at 1.07 Mb/D (16.3%). Historically, OPEC was the dominant crude oil supplier to the U.S., but since 2014, Canada has taken the lead as the top source of U.S. crude oil imports.
