From 2010 to 2016, U.S. civilian aircraft exports experienced significant growth, doubling from $30 billion to $61 billion. During the same period, the market capitalization of Boeing, the leading U.S. civilian aircraft manufacturer, also doubled, rising from $48 billion to $96 billion. This period of growth for Boeing was closely tied to the robust performance of U.S. civilian aircraft exports.
However, the landscape began to change following 2020. A notable decline in U.S. civilian aircraft exports impacted Boeing's market value. Despite the earlier period of stability and growth in export markets, which had driven Boeing's market capitalization to a historical peak of $183 billion in 2018 and 2019, the subsequent drop in exports from 2020 to 2022 led to a significant decrease in Boeing's market capitalization. The company's financial health and market position were adversely affected as the industry faced new challenges and declining export figures.
