U.S. Stock Market Concentration

In June 2024, the top 10 stocks in the S&P 500 accounted for 38% of the index's total market capitalization, doubling their share from the 2010-2014 period. Between 2018 and June 2024, these top 10 stocks were responsible for approximately 50% of the overall market cap growth in the S&P 500. This trend highlights the increasing concentration of market value among a small group of leading companies. Furthermore, from 2014 to June 2024, the market capitalization of the top 10 stocks grew more than twice as much as that of the remaining stocks in the S&P 500, underscoring the dominance of these key players in the U.S. stock market.
