In 2022 and 2023, the European Union significantly reduced its crude oil imports from Russia, decreasing by 81%. This sharp decline was counterbalanced by increases in crude oil imports from other countries. The United States saw an 82% increase in imports, reaching 614 thousand barrels per day (mb/d). Norway's imports rose by 35%, totaling 282 mb/d. Saudi Arabia's imports increased by 50%, amounting to 235 mb/d. Angola experienced a dramatic rise of 582%, contributing 211 mb/d. Brazil's imports surged by 111%, reaching 193 mb/d. Kazakhstan's imports increased by 26%, totaling 181 mb/d. The most significant increase came from Guyana, with a staggering 921% rise, amounting to 178 mb/d. This shift highlights a major reconfiguration in global oil trade dynamics, driven by geopolitical tensions and strategic diversification of energy sources.
